I’ve been playing around a bit with Tableau, a data visualization tool that is seriously so much fun! It has great interactivity too, so feel free to play around with it! Embedded on this site! The future is now!
Basically, this shows meat consumption data that I downloaded from the OECD by country and region (at the bottom). The first map shows per capita consumption, the second total country consumption, the bars at the bottom show which countries and regions drive total consumption, and the bars on the right side show you how average consumption changes across time and compares across types of meat.
When you head on over, you can use the time slider to get a visual representation of the changes over time. Click on the bars on the right to isolate each meat on all the maps. And have fun exploring! What are things that astonish you? For me, it’s the massive rise of China in the mix – I knew it happened, but seeing it so drastically is quite impressive.
