This video is a nice summary of the issues related to “cheap food”, external costs and the idea of competing on the true production costs and not those that are stated on the label. Show it to your friends and family the next time they ask why they should buy the more expensive meat, the fresh fish, the higher-cost eggs or the organic vegetables instead of their standard fare.
And learn more about true cost accounting by checking out this recap of an event put on by the Sustainable Food Trust in December 2013, with YouTube videos of the presentations given (including by Prince Charles!) and access to all PowerPoint presentations as well. Happy Sunday surfing!
