Can A Bamboo Revolution Increase Food Security in Ethiopia?

  1. This is fascinating! I had heard quite a bit about bamboo’s questionable sustainability in terms of fabrics (apparently chemical processing, the method most employed by textile processors to turn bamboo into fabric, isn’t very environmentally friendly) and was accordingly pretty skeptical of the ‘bamboo revolution’- but I hadn’t thought of its potential in its unprocessed form. That’s quite interesting, though, that all land in Ethiopia is owned by the government- I wonder how that plays into a development strategy. I can definitely see the expropriation problem discouraging innovation.
